In contrast to β-adrenoreceptor blockers, Lopressor does not affect other receptors that control cardiac output and thus is not effective against arrhythmias or heart attacks. However, the mechanism behind the action of Lopressor is different to β-adrenoreceptor blockers as it inhibits β-adrenoreceptors by activating β-cells, resulting in an inhibition of β-cells activity. Lopressor is also used to treat heart arrhythmia.
